Saturated Canary Thank You Card

Hi, crafty friends! Well, I ended up not posting yesterday after all.  I was finishing up a picture tutorial that I did for a friend of mine and time just got away from me.  But before I crash for the night, or early morning as the case may be, I have yet another Saturated Canary card for you.

This sweet girl is called "Dreads" and I think she is probably my current favorite of all the digis in Krista's shop right now.

I am entering this card in the following challenges:

I'm going to keep this post short and sweet so I can crawl into bed.  I'm pretty beat tonight.  I hope you have enjoyed my card and I hope you'll keep coming back to see what else I have up my sleeve. Thanks so much for stopping by today.  See you tomorrow, I hope!  Until then...

Time for a new Paper a la Mode Challenge at The Outlawz!

As happens every Saturday, it's time for a brand new Paper a la Mode challenge at The Outlawz. The theme of this week's challenge is "Banners" so you must use some type of banner somewhere on your project to be eligible to compete for the prizes.

I am not really a scrapbooker as most of my older followers will attest to but I can put a layout together if I have to.  I really wanted to make a wall banner but I would have had to design it from scratch as well as cut all the pieces on the Cricut or Silhouette and then assemble it. So rather than deliberate any longer than necessary, I chose to create a  layout and put a banner of some sort on it. As I started going through my photos and scrapbook papers, I came across a patterned paper by Brenda Walton with cute little dresses on it and I knew immediately what I would do.

Here's my layout. This darling child is the daughter of my youngest brother's niece by marriage and looks very much like her mother did at that age. She is very shy at first but is really quite precocious after she gets to know you well enough to feel comfortable around you.

You might be able to tell that scrapbooking isn't really my "thang" (spoken in my best Southern drawl). as I have probably ignored most of the current design rules.  When I do create a layout, I do what appeals to my own taste and to heck with rules and trends! LOL

Here's a close up of the banner. I cut out all those cute little dresses and used them as the "flags" on my banner. I don't know if you can read it but the banner says "All Girl" and the rest of the title is "All the Time". This little girl doesn't have an ounce of tomboy in her though she knows very well how to torment the boys!
I am pleased with the results even though I didn't even start working on it until a few hours before it was due. It has been a crazy busy week and I am way behind on my sleep and job hunting because I had 3 projects due for 3 separate DT posts within 4 days and 2 of the 3 were stretches for me creatively speaking. I had wanted to make my first real wall banner but I just ran out of time.  It will have to wait for another day.

Here are the tools and supplies I used to make this layout:

Green checked paper and white designer paper with glittered circles and stripes pattern from DCWV's Nana's Nursery Girl stack.
Dresses used for banner - K & Company Best of Brenda Walton stack
Borders - cut from Nana's Nursery Girl paper
Pink photo mats - Recollections smooth cardstock
Martha Stewart's Punch Around the Page set
Medium pink chalk ink pad - Studio G
Pink rhinestone flourishes - Recollections
1" Acrylic circle "my little masterpiece" from Recollections and backed with pink paper.to make it look like one of the colored balls at the girl's feet
Pink felt letters - Thickers
Pink glitter letters - Me and My Big Idea Alpha Chips
Small pink paper roses - Recollections
Clothesline - Black Glaze Gel Pen
Pop Dots

So there you have it!  It may be a while before you'll see another layout from me... and then again, I might surprise you!  You just never know. The Outlawz is getting very close to having 1000 members and when we reach that milestone we will have an online party to celebrate. You won't want to miss it as we'll be having some special activities along with some extra special prizes so stay tuned to get more details as they become available. You must be a member to participate so if you haven't already joined you'll need to do that soon.

I am entering this layout in the following challenges:

Scrappin' Chics August Challenge - Banners

I'm looking forward to the weekend and I hope yours is enjoyable. I have lots of catching up to do on housekeeping chores, job hunting and crafting so I'll still be busy. Hopefully I'll be back with a few new projects to show you next week. Until then...

Christmas in July Paper a la Mode Challenge at The Outlawz.... a Christmas wall banner

Happy Saturday, everybody!  This sweltering summer heat is about to do me in so today, I'm bringing you a project with a winter theme.  In keeping with the promotions that many businesses are currently doing, the theme of this week's Paper a la Mode challenge at The Outlawz is Christmas in July.  I was looking forward to this one as a means to provide a little mental relief from the unbearable heat wave and drought we've been experiencing.  It has been over 100 degrees for the past 21 days and I think I may melt if we don't get some relief soon.

This wall hanging/banner is made of chipboard plaques covered with scrapbook papers in different holiday patterns and embellished with felt flowers, pearl flourishes and paper shapes.  The basic pieces were a kit that I won as candy from a blog hop last year (I can't remember who the sweet blogger was who sent it to me but if she sees it, I hope she'll refresh my memory!) and I only recently put it together and added my own personal touches.

I think it turned out very pretty and has a bit of a vintage feel to it.... not 1800s vintage but maybe mid 20th century, if you know what I mean.  I love the colors.  After making this one, I'm in the mood to do some Christmas crafting and I'm thinking I might make more like this using different shapes, holiday words and paper patterns.

The individual panels are attached to one another using Hang-It-All connectors from Zutter, the company that makes the Bind-It-All.  These little do-dads are aresome and sooo easy to use and I think they give the piece a finished appearance.  Plus I like the fact that it can be easily taken apart and stored compactly.  The paper ornament haning from the bottom is a cut from Cricut's Christmas Solutions cartridge, which is now retired and is attached to the bottom connector with a red velvet ribbon bow.  I'm considering taking this back off and glittering it to make it look more like a tree ornament.  I colored the pearlflourishes on the "J" and "Y" panels with Copics to make them pop.  I also used the chisel tip end of a W-5 Copic to enhance the shadow created by the letters, which are embossed using the Swiss Dot Cuttlebug folder.  I added a thick layer Crystal Glitter to the branch on the "J" panel to give the effect of snow.  It's hard to see in the photos but it's very sparkly!

I hope you'll visit The Outlawz to see what other cool challenges are going on right now and perhaps even to enter your own creations.  You have to be a member to enter but it's easy to join and you can quit if you ever decide it's not for you.  There is a different challenge for each day of the week and the prizes are awesome!  We'd love to see you over there.

So, that's it for today.  Thanks for stopping by.  As always, your  comments are welcome and appreciated.  Have a wonderful weekend and don't forget to enter the JustWordz Stamps giveaway!  Until next time...
