Bubble, Bubble, Toil and Trouble....

Good day, everybody! Well, I took a day longer than I had anticipated but I'm back with something that I think you'll enjoy and that will likely be totally unexpected. This card is just a tad out of season but at the rate this year is flying by, it won't be long until we're all thinking along these lines.

I got this image from Saturated Canary a while back and have been dying to color it but just didn't seem to be able to get around to doing it. Well, I finally did and I even went ahead and made a card out of it right away rather than adding it to my stash of colored images. Yay for me! LOL!

As you can tell, it's an easel card. I combined Krista's precious little witches with a crescent man in the moon stamp from Stampin' Up that I've had for years and never inked it up. I stamped it on some shimmer cardstock and colored it with Copics, then added some tiny rhinestones for the stars. I think it goes perfectly with this eerie trio and it gave me an opportunity to do some shadowplay with my coloring.  The lighting is a little bit wonky on the second pic for some reason. If I get a chance, I'll get a better photo and replace this one.

I love drama in art and one of the best ways to accomplish that is with shadow and light. They create a mood that is difficult to achieve any other way. If you look at some of my Halloween cards from last year, you'll see even more dramatic shadowplay than what I used here. I don't know how well you can see them in the pics but there are a couple of silver skeleton leaves behind the playing card, which I used to allude to fortune telling and other mystical, magical things. I also added a metal skeleton key to the greeting that I mounted on top of an accordion-folded rosette.

I even decorated the back side of the card. I started doing this with easel cards not long ago, when I noticed that when you place them on a desk, many times the back side of the card is what's showing to visitors.

When you open the card, the inside is also covered in paper and provides a nice big space for writing a personal message if desired. I'll probably add a Happy Halloween stamp to the inside at some point.

So, what do you think?  Did I catch you off guard with this one?  If you have been visiting my blog lately, you know that I've been on a Saturated Canary kick for a while.  I just adore all of Krista's images and with this card, I am applying for a guest designer spot on her challenge blog during the summer months.  That sounds like so much fun to me and it's not as long a commitment as most regular DT terms! Whether or not I'm selected for one of the 2 openings, I had a ball with this little project and I already have a head start on my Halloween cards for the coming season!

Thanks for visiting me today.  As always, your comments are welcome and appreciated.  I'll have some more Saturated Canary for you tomorrow and then I'll try to give you another break for a day or two.  So until next time, have a lovely week and...

Happy crafting!

Another Halloween card

Good day, crafty friends!  I don't have anything spectacular to post today as I'll have projects for JustWordz and The Outlawz coming up on Friday and Saturday respectively.  So I thought I would show you a variation on a Halloween card that I posted a few days ago.  If you happened to miss that one then this one will be all new to you! This image was one that I received as a freebie for the CDAC Progressive Freebies Challenge going on right now.  That reminds me that I haven't yet started on the newest images they sent us!  I had better get moving or I won't get my cards finished before the deadline.  Anyway, this is my favorite of all the images we have received so far.  I think it's called Dragonlets and Me and it's by Delicious Doodles.  I loved coloring the first one so much that I had to color a second one!  It's an awesome image for Halloween because it's full of mood and drama, which if you know me, you already know that I adore in the images I color.

It is, of course, colored with Copics.  This card is similar in design to the first one I made but the papers I used give it a bit of a different appearance.  There are a few other subtle variations too but they are insignificant.  Thanks for visiting me today.  I hope you'll drop by this weekend for the projects I mentioned at the beginning of this post.  Until then...

Happy crafting!

Red, Black and Slimey Green Challenge at Crafty Sprouts

Note: Please scroll down to the next post for my Outlawz Paper a la Mode challenge project.

Hello again, everybody!  I made a card especially for the Crafy Sprouts Red, Black and Slimey Green challenge that ends today so I wanted to get it posted before the deadline.  Unfortunately, when I got to the Crafty Sprouts blog to post my entry, the challenge was already closed.  Anyway, since it's almost Halloween, I'll leave it posted anyway.  I love this image by Phee McFaddell and he was perfect for the challenge theme so I colored him up and put him on a card.  Of course, I used a Crafty Sprouts stamp from the Totally Witchin set for my sentiment.

Pretty hot-looking vampire, huh?  He's kind of a cross between the Phantom and something out of Vampire Diaries.  He sure was fun to color.  I'll still have another new project posted tomorrow.  I just had to get this one up before time ran out on me... little did I know that it already had! LOL

Materials and Supplies:

Base card - Core'dinations
DP - DCWV's Halloween and Fall stack
Image - Phee McFaddell
Medium - Copics
Flocked black Gothic border ribbon - We R Memory Keepers
Sentiment stamp - Crafty Sprouts' Totally Witchin stamp set
Red Glitter gel pen

In addition to the Crafty Sprouts challenge, I am entering this card in the following challenges:

Delicious Doodles #4 - Halloween, but no orange

Thanks for dropping by my blog today.  I hope you enjoyed your time here.  Until next time...

Happy crafting!

Bonus Entry for CDAC Progressive Freebies Challenge (cdacpc4)

Hello again!  I finished making a card with the bonus image I received a couple of days ago from JenLee at CDAC for posting at least 3 projects with the current set of free images. The image is adorable! To me, she looks like a young witch-in-training.  So I'll get right to it.

Isn't she a cutie patootie?  There are two more rounds of the Progressive Challenge to go and I am very anxious to see the next set of images.  It was a bit of a task getting all 7 of the images, including this one,  colored and made into something but it sure was a lot of fun!

I'm entering this card in the following challenges:

CDAC Progressive Freebie Challenge - Bonus entry

As I mentioned earlier, tonight I'll be posting the new challenge for the Paper a la Mode team at The Outlawz so I hope you'll visit me again tomorrow to see my new project for that.  Until then...

Happy crafting!

Fifth entry for CDAC's Progressive Freebies Challenge (cdacpc4)

I'm baaaaaaaack!  And I have my fifth entry for the CDAC challenge.  This one is called McGonagal, I'm assuming after Professor McGonagal of Harry Potter fame. This chick is a little wild-looking in my opinion but as long as she's having fun, so am I!  The image is from Simply Betty Stamps and I colored it with Copics.  As with my other Halloween-themed cards, the sentiment stamp is from Crafty Sprouts' Totally Witchin stamp set.  Have I said how much I love these stamps???

As with many of my cards, I have not put a verse of any kind on the inside yet.  If I sell this one, I'll let the customer decide what kind of sentiment or verse they would like and if I use it myself, I will decide when I know who the recipient will be.  Okay, only one more card for today so please stand by again and I'll be right back with my 6th and final entry for this round.  I did receive a bonus image yesterday that I have colored already but I have not put on a project as yet.  So I may post that some time this coming weekend after my JustWordz and Outlawz projects have been posted.  I'll be right back!

In addition to the CDAC Progressive Freebies Challenge, I am entering this card in the following challenges:

More new cards for the CDAC Progressive Freebies Challenge (cdacpc4)

Good morning and happy Thursday, crafty people! As promised I'm bringing you more cards that I have made for the Progressive Freebies Challenge at the Crafters Digital Art Center (CDAC). As I told you yesterday, they gave us 6 new digital images to play with this round and I have created at least one card from each one of them. I have made 2 or 3 cards from my favorite images! I posted 3 of the 6 yesterday and today, I will post the last 3.

First up is Frankie Stein by Bonibleaux Designs! This little guy was so much fun to color. He is a relatively simple line drawing but if you're at all familiar with my coloring style, you know that doesn't mean a thing to me! Hee hee! I have to put my own signature on everything I do and Frankie was no different. I gave him bags under his eyes and droopy, saggy eyelids as well as pronounced cheekbones and a lower lip.  Now he's ready to Monster Mash with the best of 'em! I think he turned out really cute.  The sentiment stamp is again from Crafty Sprouts' Totally Witchin stamp set.  I thought it was befitting this fellow!

The fifth and sixth entries will be coming right up so please stay tuned.  In addition to the CDAC challenge, I am also entering this card in the following challenges:

My third entry in the CDAC Progressive Freebies Challenge # 4 (cdacpc4)

Okie dokey, folks! I'm back with the last post for today. I'll have 3 more postings tomorrow which will encompass all six of my CDAC entries for this round. If you like what you see today, you'll definitely want to check back tomorrow for more Tricks and Treats. Okay, not really any tricks; just treats! The image on this last card is my favorite of the Halloween images we were given to play with this round. It is from Delicious Doodles Digital Stamps. If you look closely at all the details you'll understand why I say it's my favorite. All of the images are outstanding in my opinion and I enjoyed coloring every one of them but this particular design is right up my alley! Full of light and shadow, drama and artistry. I just squeal with delight when I get images like this to color! LOL

See what I mean? The character in the original digi stamp had spikey bangs but I took the artistic liberty of coloring them in. It was one of those happy accidents, really, but I liked it so much better that I have colored a second version the same way that I will post another time. Again, the sentiment stamp on the inside is from the Totally Witchin stamps set by Crafty Sprouts. I love this stamp set!!

In addition to the CDAC Progressive Challenge, I am entering this card in the following challenges:

Repeat Impressions DCC1012 Designer’s Choice Challenge - Halloween of Fall
Paper Pretties PWC175 - Halloween
The Paper Shelter #35 - Animals
Pixie Cottage #91 - Sketch or Dark and Spooky
Scrapalicious - Color (Black, orange and purple)
Simon Says Stamp - Halloween or Goth
House of Gilli - any 3 of these colors (orange, black, white, green, purple)

You made it! Congratulations for sitting through all 3 of my posts and don't forget that there will be 3 more tomorrow, 2 of which are cute Halloween designs. The third one is really beautiful so you won't want to miss it, especially if you're not a big fan of Halloween. Thanks so much for stopping by today. As always, your comments are welcome and appreciated. I truly enjoy reading your thoughts about my work. Have a wonderful Wednesday, folks! Until tomorrow...

Happy crafting!

Second Entry for the CDAC Progessive Freebies Challenge Round 4 (cdacpc4)

Welcome back! If you're still hangin' with me, I truly appreciate it! Next up is another Halloween image by Design2Delight Digital Stamps. This cute image is also paper-pieced with the jack-o-lantern having 3 layers.  I love the spider hanging from the Scaredy Cat's tail! The greeting stamp is from Crafty Sprouts' Totally Witchin stamp set. I'll be doing a guest designer spot on her blog at the end of the month during her week long Halloween celebration. Woohoo! Be sure and check back during that week for lots of Halloween fun.

The leafy looking flourishes were originally white but I decided to color them with a black Sharpie to add more drama to my design. The cute witch on the inside is an image by Phee McFaddell, one of my favorite illustrators and whose images I have featured on several cards previously. I adore her work! You'll see more of her images on some of my upcoming projects.

Okay, stand by for my third and last post for today and my third entry for CDAC.

In addition to the CDAC Progressive Challenge, I am entering this card in the following challenges:

Simon Says Stamp - Halloween or Goth

Thanks so much if you're still here!  Back in a flash!  (Continued in next post)

New cards for Round 4 of the CDAC Progressive Freebies Challenge Round 4 (cdacpc4)

A couple of days ago, I told you that I was working on several cards for the Crafters Digital Art Center's Progressive Freebies Challange that I have been participating in over the past 7 weeks or so. Well, I have 6 cards to post in 2 days so these next few posts are going to be graphics intensive. I really hope you enjoy looking at photos of my work or this may be a bit much for you to handle! LOL All of the images are colored with Copics. I'm going to spare you the details on these 6 cards but if you have any questions or want additional information, please include them in a comment and I will, of course, get back to you with the information you seek. The theme this round is Halloween or Mystical and you will see by the images that it was geared toward Halloween, which is fine with me. Many people object to the holiday because they associate it with devil worship or something along those lines when in fact, the original name was All Hallows Eve and it was a religious holiday. I love the costumes and hoopla associated with it.

I'm going to cut right to the chase with the first card. This image is by Sew Many Cards Digital Stamps. I made an easel card (my favorite kind) with this adorable little teddy named Bailey. I paper pieced and layered Bailey's pumpkin candy container and witch's hat to add dimension and visual interest. All of the shadows are accentuated in Copic #W3.  The sentiment stamp is from the Crafty Sprouts Totally Witchin stamp set.

The next post will be for my second entry. I would put all of the entries in a single post to save time and energy except that each one has to have a unique URL to be uploaded to the CDAC Inlinkz app.  So I'll continue in the next post. Thank you for your patience.

In addition to the CDAC Progressive Challenge, I am entering this card in the following challenges:

Crafting For All Seasons #11- Fall flowers/pumpkins
Crafts and Me #56 - Color (Orange)
Simon Says Stamp - Halloween or Goth
