Time For A New Challenge at Kenny K's Krafty Krew

Hi, all! It's that time again! Yepper, time for a brand new challenge at Kenny K and this week, the theme being presented by Team A is "Monochrome". That is to say that we want you to create your project using varying shades of the same color. I have to admit here that this was a huge challenge for me too! Anybody who knows me knows that I am ALL about color so using only one, even in multiple shades was way outside my comfort zone. But I did it and I am quite tickled with the outcome... so much so, in fact, that I created not one but TWO cards using the same basic design and the same digi stamp but in different colors. Once I got started, I couldn't stop and I was very tempted to make a third but I thought my time might be better spent working on future assignments instead. LOL

So, here are two color variations using Frieda Flapper. I had not colored this image before so I had lots of fun with her. She's a party girl to be sure! The first one I did in shades of teal using paper from K & Company and the second is done is shades of red using a combination of DCWV and K & Company papers.

Which one do you prefer? I can't decide! For more inspiration, visit the Kenny K Krafty Krew blog and see the incredible examples created by my talented teammates. Also, if you're up for making your own New Year's Eve party invitations, see my post for yesterday. I used another of Kenny's awesome designs, "Happy Hour", to make a set of party invitations using WOW Embossing Powders and a non-traditional color palette. I love how they turned out!

I am entering one or both of these cards in the following challenges:

Crafty Ann's Challenge Blog - # 78  Tic Tac Toe (I chose Gens, Ribbon, Flowers)
Crafty Catz Challenge - #158 Anything Goes
Fat Pages and Cards - #26 Add a Sentiment/Anything Goes
Pattie's Creations Design Challenge - #56 - Birthdays
Challenges 4 Everybody - #7 Anything Goes

I'll be back in a couple of days with an entry for Saturated Canary's new challenge and no telling what else. It's so great having a space dedicated to my crafting addiction! So, until next time, have a wonderful weekend and...

Happy crafting!

Happy 4th of July!!!

Hi, everybody!! If you live in the U.S., you are probably celebrating our nation's independence in some fashion today. Many will go to the lake or the beach. Others will spend time with family and friends over barbecue and cold beer. As for me, I'm spending the day crafting! Later, I plan to pack some boxes and do some cleaning and when everything is done, I'll fall on the sofa and watch television this evening.

Today, I have for you a parade to commemorate this important holiday!! I made a card for Independence Day with one of the adorable new images from Krista Smith at Saturated Canary. It is called, quite simply, "Parade". I thought it was the perfect thing for today.

Isn't this the cutest thing evah? I paper pieced the cute little girl's top to add a little more dimension. This is one of the digi stamps in Krista's latest release. If you haven't seen them, you must go here and have a look! They are a delight to color... so much so in fact that I have already colored every single one of them; some twice! I'll have a bunch of new projects to show you as soon as I get them all made.

This coming weekend, there will be a lot going on at Kenny K's Krafty Krew. In addition to a brand new challenge hosted by Team A (that's my team!), the new design team will host it's first blog hop and all of the designers from both teams will present inspirational projects in celebration of the 2nd anniversary of Kenny K's Krafty Challenges! Wooo hooo!  And you should hear about the grand prize!!! You won't want to miss this one, folks!

Okay, I'm already late getting this posted so I'll stop here and get back on my other projects.  Please have a safe and happy 4th and if you're anywhere besides the U.S., have a lovely Wednesday! Until next time...

Happy crafting!

WOW DT Project - Birthday cards in Valentine's Day colors

Okay, so Valentine's Day has come and gone again.  But February is the month of love and I have a couple of cards I created for birthdays but I used the traditional colors of Valentine's Day!  Several of my family members have February birthdays so I was tickled pink to have received this assignment for the WOW Embossing Powders DT because it enabled me to accomplish two tasks at the same time.  That doesn't happen very often.

My first card was made in the typical red, pink and white color scheme.  It also contains many of the things I adore... butterflies, flowers, little girls with big eyes and polka dots! Oh, and how could I forget pearls?  This little sweetie pie is a digi stamp created by one of my favorite artists, Krista Smith of The Saturated Canary.  Krista sells her digis in her Etsy shop and some of her designs are also available in rubber through Simply Sassy/ Sugar Nellie.

The WOW Embossing powders I used on this card were: Cable Car Red, Metallic Gold Rich Pale Regular, Metallic Gold Rich Ultra High and Clear Gloss Regular. As you can see, I even embossed the fabric flowers and they look so cool with the gold tips on their petals.

My second card uses the slightly less traditional palette of pink purple and gold.  Once again, the image is from the pencil of Krista Smith.

I haven't quite decided on the sentiment for the inside but I have to make up my mind very soon as I plan to give this one to my niece for her birthday tomorrow.  The powders I used on this one were Earthtone Grape, Metallic Gold Rich Pale Regular, Metallic Gold Rich Ultra High and Clear Gloss Regular.  These powders are so much fun and I love experimenting to create different effects I get when I use different techniques on them.  For instance, to create the effect I achieved on the butterflies on the second card, I used the Grape powder on purple Shimmer Cardstock by DCWV and held my heat gun very close to it to cause the bubbles/ little white spots.  Then I applied Versamark to the outer edges of the wings and dipped them in the regular gold and then did the same thing with the Ultra High Gold and heated them as I normally do.  And isn't this little fairy just picture perfect?  The greeting was done with a glitter gel pen by me.

That's all I have for you today.  I'm working on some altered projects and have plans for a mini album as soon as I get the time to work on it,  I hope you have been participating in our week-long blog hop over on the WOW blog and that you're keeping up with leaving comments on all the designers' blogs to make you eligible for the prize or prizes that will be given away at the end.  Thanks so much for visiting.  If you like what you see, I hope you'll consider becoming a follower.  Until next time...
