A new challenge at Saturated Canary!

Hello out there in Blogland!  It's time for a new challenge at Saturated Canary this week and the theme this time is "Make it Dotty!". That is to say, use polka dots or any other kind of dots in your design.  For my inspiration creation, I used a combination of polka dots and multi-sized dots in the background.  The image I used is one of Krista's newest, called Sparkle Nurse and you can buy her here.

When I was a girl, the volunteers at the local hospitals were called Candy Stripers and they wore pink and white striped uniforms quite similar (with the exception of the mouth with fangs) to the one worn by Sparkle Nurse so I modeled my version after that memory.  I can recall wanting to be a Candy Striper when I grew up and thought those uniforms were the coolest things EVER!

So without further ado, let me present to you my Sparkle Nurse! Isn't she a delightful little blood-sucker? LOL!

Here's a closeup of her, showing all the details.

As you can see, I haven't added any kind of verse or sentiment to the inside yet. I know several nurses so I decided to wait until I determine who the recipient shall be.

Be sure and visit the Saturated Canary Challenge Blog and see all of the beautiful creations from the rest of the design team.  I hope to see some familiar names in Mr. Linky too so get those spotty cards ready! That's all I have for you today so until next time, my friends...

Happy crafting!

A New Release and a New Challenge at Kenny K's

Hello, my bloggy friends! Today is the beginning of a new challenge at Kenny K's Krafty Krew but it just happens to coincide with a new release from Kenny too! I think all of you Halloween fans are going to love these new images for your Halloween cards and layouts.  They are so much fun to color!

I am actually on Team A and this wasn't really my week to post but I had so much fun with the new designs I just had to show off a couple of them so you can see them for yourselves.  Three of the images weren't sent out to the design team until after assignments had already been handed out among the designers on Team B so I got to make cards with 2 of the 3 latest ones! Aren't I special? LOL

Our sponsors this week are Kenny K Downloads, with 5 digis of the winner's choice, and

and the challenge theme is <drumroll, please!>

ANYTHING GOES

The images I used were Princess Pia and Trixxie Treat.  Aren't they something else! Believe it or not, I have colored Princess Pia 3 times with a different color scheme each time... but I'm only going to show you one of them today.  I'll save the other two for future posts so you'll have to wait for them. Hee hee!

Here is Princess Pia.  I hope you don't have too much trouble making out the skulls on her silver tiara.  She is accompanied by her furry friend, a Siamese cat I have named Pyewacket, after the cat in the 1958 movie Bell, Book and Candle which starred Kim Novak and Jimmy Stewart.  It was one of my favorite movies growing up. Princess Pia could be a modern-day witch queen of New Orleans, in my opinion.

On the second card, I used Trixxie Treat and I think she is just divine!

You simply must stop over at the Krafty Crew's page to see the rest of Kenny's newest collection.  There are some incredible digis and the inspirational sample cards made by the talented members of Team B are all on display there too. I have been anxiously awaiting this release as next to Christmas, Halloween is my favorite celebration.

That's all for today, folks! I hope to see all of your creations on the challenge blog this week.  Until next time...

Happy crafting!

Party Like a Rock Star with Kenny K's Krafty Krew!

Hi, everyone!  Today marks the beginning of a brand new challenge at Kenny K's Krafty Krew, the theme of which is the sketch shown below:

I'm sure you know how this goes but just to make it clear to anyone who possibly hasn't entered a sketch challenge before, to participate, you must use the sketch as the guideline for your design.  You can twist it, turn it or rearrange it... but we must be able to see the original sketch within your individual design.

Our sponsors for this challenge are, as always, Kenny K Downloads, with the winner's choice of 5 digis,

and Bearly Mine Designs with a wonderful prize of 2 digi sets.

For my sample card, I chose one of Kenny's characters that I have been wanting to color for quite some time.  In case you're not already familiar with him, let me introduce you to Groove Dude. As you can tell, he realllly feels his music!! LOL  I turned the stripes part of the sketch on end for my design and instead of an oval, I used a Nestie to create the shape and popped that up on a silver foil rectangle with rounded corners.  The center stripe was made by placing 2 strips of snakeskin ribbon side by side on top of a strip of Magic Mesh.

The background is a piece of paper from one of my favorite stacks by DCWV, called Colorful Life.  The papers are perfect for Kenny K designs but Hobby Lobby is the only place I have seen it.

Here's a close up view of Groove Dude in all his musical glory.  I used the tiny stars I punched out of the silver foil to surround the image and edged it with Maraschino Cherry Powder Puff Chalk Ink from Quick Quotes.  I love those inks!

This is the inside of the card.  I normally decorate both sides of the inside of my cards but because this one is for a guy, I didn't feel the need.  They usually don't notice such details anyway unless they have strong artistic genes! :)

I hope you'll pop over to the Krafty Krew Challenge Blog to see what my ultra-talented teammates have created for this theme and I also hope you'll find the time to enter your own creation in our challenge.

I am entering this card in the following challenges:

TBD

I'm still packing boxes and getting ready to move so I may not be around much for the next couple of weeks.  If you have any questions, please leave them in the comment section.  I will be checking my email during this time.  Thanks so much for stopping by today.  I hope you had a nice, relaxing weekend and that this week will be a great one!  Until next time...

New Challenge Time at Saturated Canary

Hello, lovely readers! Today marks the beginning of another new challenge at Saturated Canary.  If you haven't visited Krista's store in a while, you're in for a treat... more new digis!!!  That's right folks.  She has released several new characters and they are all amazing!  The inspiration for the theme of this challenge is the photograph shown below. Aren't those flowers gorgeous? And what a peaceful setting. The bicycle looks very much like one I had when I was in grade school, only mine was blue instead of aqua.

For my sample card, I chose one that was recently released called Haley and Harley and you can find it here

Is this not the cutest little piglet you have ever seen???  I just love her in her cute little tutu which, of course, matches her friend Haley's costume perfectly.  I usually color a new image at least twice so I can choose the one I like best to use on my project.  This time, I liked them both so I decided to layer them, one on top of the other, to give my card more dimension.

I hope you'll take a few minutes to visit the Saturated Canary Challenge Blog to see the beautiful creations from the regular design team girls as well as my co-guest teammate, Denise.  Also, don't forget to check out the newest designs in Krista's shop.  We would love to have you join us by participating in the challenge.

I am entering this card in the following challenges:

Crafting For All Seasons #33 - Bright Colors
Paper Pretties Wednesday Challenge PWC219  - Square Cards
Simon Says Stamp - Animal Antics
Whimsy Stamps #50 - Lots of Layers
MarkerPop #4 - Bright Colors

Until next time, my friends...

A New Challenge at Kenny K's Krafty Krew

Hello again, everybody! It feels good to be posting twice in the same week. If you read my last post, you know that I have been busy, busy packing, having garage sales and preparing to move. What a drudgery!! I would almost rather be flogged than have to move but it must be done so I'm trying very hard to make the best of it and use it as an opportunity to downsize and get rid of things that I have held onto far too long.

All that aside, today is the start of a brand new challenge at Kenny K's Krafty Krew.  The new theme is "Favorite Ice Cream". This wasn't an easy thing for me because I have several favorite ice cream flavors and it was difficult to choose just one! So I went with an easy one... Raspberry Sherbet!

The image I used is called "Da Bomb" and you can find her as well as the newly released images here. I love this sassy young lady and thought she would be perfect for my color scheme as she reminds me a little of one of my favorite performers, Pink!

I couldn't resist coloring her hair raspberry pink in honor of the daring and dangerous chanteuse after whom I fashioned her. Check out those boots! Wouldn't you love to have a pair of boots with flames on the toes? I would!!

The patterned paper is from The Paper Studio's Paris Apartment stack.

I tied this luscious bow with strips of hot pink and pale pink organza ribbons and I colored the rose and rosebuds with Shock Pink Copic ink. The self-adhesive gems are by Darice.

And here's the inside of the card, which is not quite finished. I may cover the other side and I'll be adding a solid color oval or circle where I can stamp a sentiment and leave space enough for a personal message to the recipient. I included this pic primarily so you can see how the patterned paper looks with nothing covering it.  It just screams "ice cream" to me! LOL!

I hope you'll decide to participate in our little challenge, despite your busy summer schedules. We'd love to see what you create and there is always a fabulous prize for the winner, which is chosen randomly.... so you have as good a chance as anyone at winning.

That's all I have for you today but I'll be posting as often as I can during this transitional period. It just won't be as regularly as I normally post until I get settled into my new place in Houston. Wish me luck!  Until next time...

Happy crafting!

A New Saturated Canary Challenge

Hello, friends! Well, I find myself apologizing once again for being absent for an extended period of time. In case some of you haven't been following the chaos in my life, I am preparing to move. My granddaughter has been here for the past 2 1/2 weeks helping me clear out some stuff, hold garage sales and pack for the move. It's amazing to me how much one can accumulate in a mere 15 years but I am determined to downsize drastically before I leave here so that I don't have to put tons of stuff in storage. In light of these facts, I'll tell you now that I will likely be absent off and on until I get relocated and settled into a new place. But I will be around and even if I'm not posting, I do check my blog for comments and I visit my bloggy friends as time permits. Just try to be patient with me and I'll be back full time as soon as I can close this chapter in my life.

Okay, now that's out of the way, I have a new card for you! Yay!! It's time for a new challenge at Saturated Canary. As you know, Krista was sweet enough to ask me to be a guest designer on her challenge blog for the summer, along with the very talented Denimo (Denise).  I have been having so much fun coloring her awesome digis and in case you weren't aware, she just released a new batch last Friday.  All of her new designs are adorable and there are even a couple of early fall/Halloween digis among them.

The newest challenge, for which I had the pleasure to choose the theme, is "The Great Outdoors".  The idea is for you to make a card or other project with an outdoor theme.  You can use any of Krista's images as long as you comply with the theme.  Here's my example.

You may have noticed that I include at least one butterfly on nearly all of my projects (unless I'm making it for a guy, of course!) so this image was the perfect thing for my project.  Isn't she adorable with her butterfly net?

I loved the combination of the shades of salmon, soft pink and green in the patterned paper which is from DCWV's Mariposa stack.

I colored the flowers, which are climbing up a ribbon trellis, with Copics to match the colors in the paper.

And here's the inside of the card.

So there you have it! I hope you'll find time in your busy summer schedule to join in the fun and create your own project for this challenge.  It's perfect for summer, camping or any other outdoor scene.

I'll be back on Sunday (if not sooner) with another project for the new challenge at Kenny K's Krafy Krew.  Kenny has a new release out too so if you haven't checked out his latest images, you'll definitely want to do that.  Some of them are really different and they are all fun to color!

So... until next time, my lovelies...

Happy crafting!!
